TALK TO ME, TEXT IT

Have you ever questioned the intersection of identity, representation, and reality in Hollywood? This episode dives into the surging controversy of Carlos Gascon's recent nomination for Best Actress at the Oscars. The nomination, which has stirred significant outcry, raises important questions about gender identity in the film industry as we discuss whether a man truly belongs in this category. The backlash has not only put a spotlight on representation but also on Gascon’s past social media actions that sparked outrage among critics.

Shifting gears, we turn our attention to New York City's subway system's grim realities as we explore a shocking report detailing five criminals with an astonishing 590 arrests among them. What does this say about our justice system, and why are these individuals still on the streets? The stark contrast between Hollywood's glittering facade and the sobering truths of urban life reveals a deeper conversation about societal standards and values.

Speaker 1:

Well, hello and good morning, let's just go ahead and get it started. I'm kind of scattered brain today. I'm a little sleepy, you know. I understand why Mondays now are meh, because people I don't know about anybody else but me. I just want to stay up a little bit longer, enjoy my weekend a little bit more. We're also watching on the Food Network the Tournament of Champions, and it's on from 7 to 9, and typically throughout the week I'm in bed asleep by 7.30. Yes, I know, but anyway, I understand why Mondays are like blah. All right, you're not.

Speaker 1:

I'm not telling you anything new that decades and decades and decades now that people have already known. But that's my, that's my, that's my thing. Now, I just repeat things that people already know. Let's see, the Oscars were last night. I did not watch them. I have not watched the Oscars in forever. The only thing I'm going to tell you about, though, is this actor named Carlos Gascon, who likes to parade around as a woman and was nominated for Best Actress in the Women's Category. Now, this Carlos Gascon likes to go by the name of, oh, carla Sofia Gascon. He's one of these men, like I said, that has a fetish. He prances his fetish out in public and I wrote about him on my blog at carolremarkscom last week maybe. So I'm just going to read a little bit from you. My blog gets absolutely no love whatsoever. I wish people would read it and comment on it. Anyway, and here we go. No Oscar for a man competing in the women best actress category. Did Hollywood just now discover the internet? It sure seems like it. The man who nominated the man I'm sorry, the man who was nominated in the best actress category, because reality is optional these days just lost before he even had a chance to win. The reason Mean tweets, that's right. So the first openly transgender Oscar nominee for Best Actress, carla Sofia Gascon, spoke out after being criticized for past controversial social media posts.

Speaker 1:

The Academy Award contender who starred in Amelia Perez you've got to go read about that movie. I cannot believe that this movie was even a thing. It's about a drug cartel, the boss of a drug cartel, a man who wants to become a woman and go live his life as a woman, and this lawyer is assigned to him to make this happen. Oh my gosh, it's stupid. I haven't watched it, but it just sounds stupid. And it was nominated All right anyway.

Speaker 1:

Has been in hot water for the past week after numerous old tweets emerged criticizing a variety of groups from the New York Post. Hollywood will believe anything except reality. They bent over backwards to nominate a man in the best actress category, but suddenly old tweets are where they draw the line. The same industry that preaches follow the science now tells us chromosomes don't matter. But a few offensive posts from years ago. That's unforgivable. This, carlos Sofia Gascon, is a man, chromosomes and all. I'll call him by his birth name carlos. That's a man. So it goes on. So let me tell you what is amelia perez, here we go.

Speaker 1:

Here's the description of the movie you ready. A mexican lawyer is offered an unusual job to help a notorious cartel boss retire and transition into a living as a woman, fulfilling a long-held desire. That is really really yes. Are people actually watching this nonsense on purpose? And Hollywood isn't just tolerating it, they're showering it with awards like it's some kind of cinematic masterpiece. If this is what counts as prestige now, we might as well start handing out Oscars at drag brunches. Heaven help us all.

Speaker 1:

But anyway, he got his nomination stripped away from him because of the mean tweets. What did he write about? Well, here we go. Well, well, looks like Hollywood's finally facing the music for nominating a man in the female category for best actress. I think a bunch of these women got together and were pissed off, even though on the outside, in front of the camera, they're like oh yeah, you know, men are women, blah, blah, blah. But behind closed doors, you know, they're pissed off. I think that's what happened. Turns out, they've suddenly discovered a treasure trove of old ex-posts where Carlos was busy disparaging a certain religion and dropping hot takes on their newly martyrized King, george Floyd. So he wrote.

Speaker 1:

Let me just read what the Reuters reported. The genre-bending musical crime drama Emilia Perez looked like the streaming service's stronger shot yet at Best Picture after winning the jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival and garnering a total of 13 academy award nominations. But prospects for the movie dimmed after a journalist found a translated and translated a series of spanish language posts dating from 2016 to 2020. In them, the film's a spanish star, sofia Gascon. Carlos described Islam as a hotbed of infection for humanity and George Floyd as a drug addict swindler. Social media amplified the story to global proportions. Well, he's not wrong. I guess he's from Spain and he said he was very upset in his home country of Spain. He looks around and there's just Muslims everywhere. So, and then he talked about George Floyd. You know, blah, blah, blah. He's not wrong, he's not wrong. But there you go. There's your Oscar update.

Speaker 1:

Okay, we're going to move on to another story. Let me go find it over here. Oh gosh, where did it go? All right, I found it. It's about New York City, of course.

Speaker 1:

Meet the five worst subway offenders in New York City, with 590 career busts between them, wanted, dangerous people. Why are they out on the street? When I read some of these to you, it's amazing why they're still out there. I don't know what has happened to our criminal justice system. Um, they are the big apple's worst transit terrors, and this is written by joe marino and jorge fitzgibbon. All right, I'll try to get through it real quick. Um, the five were subway career criminals. In the five boroughs have whopping 590 bus between them let's scroll down and let's just get to it right off the bat and a lot of these are felonies. So, um, let me go down here.

Speaker 1:

Among them, the criminal picked up. Okay, sorry, all right, here's one davis, a reputed member of the latin kings, now at rikers island. So he's caught on three thousand dollar bail was stopped because the bail should be more than that was stopped when cops spotted him between cars. Okay, blah, blah, blah, jorge. This other guy, Molina, said 36, has 128 arrests under his belt. 128, 128 arrests. What in the hell is going on? I don't understand that. I is that something normal? 60 for felony offenses yes, you heard that. 60 for felony offenses, including 52 burglary busts. Melina is now behind bars 7 500 bail correction. Oh good, deport his ass, because you know he's here illegally.

Speaker 1:

Also arrested was kennedy mitchell, a career offender with 100. See, these people should have been arrested. What, what was it? Three strikes, you're out. Wasn't that a bill clinton thing, or was that something else? Well, am I recollecting something else completely? Was that supposed to be about something else? Uh, also arrested was kennedy mitchell, a career offender with 116 arrests, mostly for lesser crimes. Mitchell, the youngest of the five, at 28, is at rikers. Well, good, uh, get him out of here, because I think all of these people are more than likely illegal. Come on, they have to be. Two other, william watts and pablo colin, remain free without bail, despite a string of prior arrests. So two of these five are still out on the streets and the other three will probably be free soon. Watts 57 has 114 arrests prior, including three for robbery and two for assault. These people need to go either to prison or back to their country of origin. All right, that's all I've got.

Speaker 1:

We've got to do the question of the day. Okay, tell me about a state that you would like to go visit. In what particular about that state? Why do you want to go visit it? Tell me, that's the question of the day. I'm not sure what I would. I want to go see Mount Rushmore. That's in the what? North Dakota, south Dakota, I can't remember which one, but I want to go see Mount Rushmore. It's on my bucket list. So there you go. All right, I got to go. Love y'all. Thanks for listening.
