Today's hot takes tackle Jimmy Kimmel's liberal blame game and shocking violence across America
What happens when late-night comedy hosts start blaming their own political tribe for election outcomes? Today we're unpacking Jimmy Kimmel's surprising Rolling Stone interview where he points fingers at "liberal cancel culture" for Trump's victory while simultaneously calling Trump supporters "animals" - a contradictory stance that perfectly captures our cultural moment.
The headlines take a darker turn as we examine a horrific random attack in Arizona, where a father of two was nearly decapitated by a hatchet-wielding assailant while sitting at a bus stop with his wife. The couple, originally from Alabama, had just decided to return home after a difficult year in California following their child's stillbirth. The seemingly motiveless violence raises troubling questions about public safety and mental health crises playing out on American streets.
Meanwhile, in Dallas, bullets flew at a high school after a dice game went wrong, leaving three students with gunshot wounds. Despite metal detectors and clear backpack policies, weapons continue finding their way into educational settings. Most concerning? This marks the second shooting at this same school in just one year, suggesting our new normal includes gambling and gunfire between classes.
The stories we cover show a society navigating profound contradictions - celebrity liberals reassessing cancel culture while continuing divisive rhetoric, schools implementing security measures that somehow still fail, and everyday Americans caught in seemingly random violence. What was your most controversial high school moment? For many of us growing up, it might have been someone getting sick in class or a hallway fight - a stark contrast to today's headlines. Hello, good morning, my little love bunnies and baby dolls. Oh, and you too, kenny Huber. Welcome One and all. Buckle in, kenny. I'm about to read some headlines and remark on them. Ooh, by the way, just because I've removed my podcast audio from YouTube doesn't mean you still can't comment or come at me. Just scroll down whatever listening platform you are listening on. There's at the very top in the description box. It should say something like talk to me, text it, and you can click on that and send me some fan mail. All right, moving on, let's see what do we have this morning.
Speaker 1:Over here on my x file we have jimmy kimmel blames liberals completely manufactured outrage for getting trump elected. This is from breitbart news. I'm actually switching it up a little bit instead of getting everything from the new york post. This is from breitbart um. So, left wing late night abc comedian jimmy kimmel. You love him From the oh back in the days, from the man show when he co-hosted with Adam Carolla when he was, you know, being your typical man back then. Okay, but now he's, I guess, paying reparations or whatever by being this liberal lunatic. So he's blaming the liberal cancel culture, that squelched comedy, for helping to get Donald Trump elected to a second term in the White House. So, jimmy, what are you saying? You're blaming yourself because you are a part of that whole cancel culture machine. Liberal cancel. You're part of that, so you're blaming yourself? Shut up this guy. I swear I can't with him.
Speaker 1:In an interview with Rolling Stone, the Jimmy Kimmel Live host why don't you just call him Jimmy Kimmel, that's his name has insisted that intolerance of liberals is a big part of why Trump won his election against Kamala Harris last November. Yeah, yeah, we do have an intolerance of this liberal crap. Yeah, he's right about that. I think a lot of the outrage is completely manufactured and it's like a lot of these people who are angry aren't really angry. The rabidly anti-Trump host exclaimed this guy, now he's not making any sense whatsoever. So he's saying that we are fake, outraged over what's going on in America.
Speaker 1:Okay, jimmy, stay in Hollywood. Please Just go. Stay in Hollywood, do your thing out there. There's no black and white when it comes to comedy. There is no line. The line is different for every person.
Speaker 1:Dave Chappelle can say things that somebody else might not be able to. I don't think anybody should be canceled. I really don't. He continued I agree, jimmy, we agree on something? Hey, how about that? But now you know he's getting mad that he's not getting any ratings anymore. Probably Now he's coming out.
Speaker 1:Well, you know, maybe people shouldn't be canceled. You know, blah, blah, blah. Yeah, well, where were you a few years ago? There's no decency, it's just a bunch of animals and it's disgusting. He complained of Trump and his supporters. What? Oh wait, I skipped a paragraph. I just don't understand how Americans can support what he's doing and the stupid stuff that he gets hung up on, like transgender sports and that stuff that affects almost no one. Kimmel said oh my gosh, I think he's just putting it out there so he can get some attention. Does he really think that the transgender sports and stuff like that that affects almost no one? He doesn't understand how Americans can support what he's doing and the stupid stuff that he gets hung up on, like transgender sports. This guy is out of touch with reality. He obviously is. Oh my gosh, wow. And then he goes on to say there's no decency, it's just a bunch of animals and it's disgusting. He complained of Trump and his supporters Wow, he's calling us animals and disgusting because we don't like the transgender sports. At that kind of stuff, jimmy. Go F yourself. Go make the sex with yourself, as Keith would say.
Speaker 1:Still, kimmel had to admit that one of the reasons Trump appeals to people is because he exhibits a lot of energy. Yes, he does, and he's nearly 80 years old, right, he's in his late 70s, mid to late 70s. And compare him to Joe Biden, come on which, by the way, joe Biden has made an appearance yesterday, last night, and he's still the same old senile man who, bless his heart, goodness gracious. He says say what you want about Trump. He played a clip in rehearsal of Biden's State of the Union address and Trump's State of the Union address. The energy in the room, it's like the difference between golf and wrestling, he explained. Well, he's right about that. He finally said something that's funny. There's just a huge amount of energy in the room. Okay, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You can go finish reading that over there if you want to.
Speaker 1:I pretty much covered it all with Jimmy Kimmel trying to remain relevant in today's world. Go jump off a cliff. Oh my gosh. No, don't really do that. I know he won't. Sorry, I take that back. Go make the sex with yourself. I'd rather do that, all right. So I wonder why we haven't heard any more about this. Oh, that's right. Maybe the attacker will cry self-defense too. I have this out on X.
Speaker 1:All right, this story hits a little bit home. Not really, but this person is from Arab Alabama. He and his wife moved. His name is Jacob Couch, his wife is Kristen, and they are from Arab Alabama. They have two children already. They're teenagers and they got pregnant again, but this baby was born stillborn, so they lost the baby. They decided for some reason to move out to California and they were only out there for a year. They realized that it wasn't going to work out, so they decided to come home and on their way home, traveling back home, he gets attacked.
Speaker 1:In Arizona, a father of two was nearly decapitated in front of his wife and left in critical condition by an axe wielding menace as the couple were in the middle of a cross-country trip. Home one year after their son's death, Jacob Couch, 32 years old, was sitting on a bus stop bench. I don't know why he was sitting on it. Maybe they were riding the buses home, I'm not sure. Could be Was sitting on a bus stop bench with his wife, kristen, in Tucson, arizona. I don't know what is happening in Arizona, but they've lost their minds out there too.
Speaker 1:When a 25-year-old, daniel Michael, confronted the pair on April 5th, you can go read the story. They have pictures in it of the victim and the attacker and you can deduce for yourself what is happening here. Michael was allegedly carrying a hatchet through Tucson's downtown area and began yelling at the couple. Let's see, seeing your husband get almost decapitated and being the only one to help. Like it's hard. Kristen Couch said to the outlet. She recalled telling the stranger they were just leaving as her husband bent down to grab their bags when Michael launched his horrific attack.
Speaker 1:So wow, and there's. You know, the family is saying that he's probably not going to make it. They, he was in surgery. He lost a lot of blood which, you know, took stuff away from his brain. They are his younger brother says he's not. They know, they just don't think he's going to make it through this, even though he's after the surgery. But wow, so they did arrest the guy, thankfully. But I wonder if he's going to claim self-defense and get out, get out of on a bail of $250,000, and people raise money for him, I wonder. Hmm, you can go finish reading all of that.
Speaker 1:All right, next up I have oh, what is this that we have is shooting in Dallas. This is from the New York Post. These kids were in there shooting dice. Somebody got mad and somebody got shot One. How did they bring a gun in? And it does talk about it in the article that they say the school says it was not brought in their normal entry points, where they have, you know, security, clear backpack policies. You know that metal detectors, that kind of thing. They are claiming it was brought in a different way. Sure, okay, whatever, but this is not the first time this has happened in a school, this particular school. Last year the same school had another shooting. So I guess they're just in there shooting dice and shooting up, carrying back and eat now in these high schools. This is in Dallas, texas.
Speaker 1:Three students were shot and nobody was killed, thankfully, and another was grazed at a Dallas high school in gunfire that was allegedly sparked by a dice game. What are we doing in our schools? Almost one year to the day, a student was injured in a classroom shooting. So this this again happened last year as well, maybe for a different reason, but you can go finish reading that if you'd like. Um, one 17 year old shot in the leg was among those injured, while another teen was grazed as bullets flew at winter. I'm sorry, wilmar hutchins high school on tuesday. That a student witness said was sparked by a dice game. A suspect has been identified but is not yet in custody. Why police were called? Okay, blah, blah the wounds.
Speaker 1:The students, whose ages were between 15 and 18, were taken to an area hospital, injuries that ranged from serious to not life-threatening. So the officials have not yet identified the victims and they said they oh, here we go. This is what one student who was nearby the incident claims to know the details. They said that they were playing a dice game. This is what one student who was nearby the incident claims to know the details. They said that they were playing a dice game. I guess that's when, that's what it was over. I guess he lost his money, the boy that was shooting an 11th grader who was in a classroom where gunfire erupted.
Speaker 1:The student said the metal detectors were working and the clear bag policy was in place on Tuesday, but the shooter, whose identity she appeared to know, did not abide by its clear backpack policy, telling the outlet that he used a brown bag. They don't search the kids when they come in? Probably not. It's against you know their individual rights or whatever. School district police officials claimed that the gun did not get into the school during the regular morning bag check. Sure, um, we do know that the gun did not come through during regular intake time. So it was not a failure of our staff, of our protocols or the machinery that we have. Dallas ISD Police Department assistant. Sure, it wasn't. Of course, cover your asses, of course. So, anyway, you can go finish reading that.
Speaker 1:We need to move on to the question of the day. Oh, my gosh, I went over 10 minutes. Oh, I'm sorry y'all. Okay, question of the day. Okay, here's a question. Back when you were in high school, what was the big, most controversial thing ever that happened? I know? For me we did have a couple people that and I went to several different schools and it seemed like each one we did have somebody die, but it wasn't in school during school at that time. It was some other way, I'm not sure. I don't remember anything really that happened, how they died or anything like that, but they were young, so I don't know. Car accidents probably. Also. I think the most controversial thing that ever happened in school was either a fight, whatever, or somebody throwing up. That was probably middle school. When somebody threw up, it was like a big deal. So that's where I come from. All right, I got to go. Thanks for listening. Sorry, I went over my 10 minute mark. All right, I'll do better next time. Thanks for listening. Love y'all, bye.
